When was the last time you saw a homeless person and did you ever take time to think about what might have been their reason for ending up where they are? When we hear stereotypes about homeless people we don't take into consideration that they are people too. We walk by them on the street thinking that they do drugs and are not good enough to be accepted into society.
-here you can develop this idea more- where do these stereotypes come from, how are they still around, how true are they, how do they effect us. etc.
For example John from "Stories from the street" is a U.S. veteran and when people walk by and he try's to say hello he gets shunned because we are so stuck on the concept of every homeless person wants money that we forget that they are human and would like to have a conversation very once in a while.
-if you are going to mention John in your final article you are going to want to spend a little more time developing his story
-why are you mentioning him? is he an example of someones story that doesn't fit negative stereotypes?
Their is this homeless man who stays on my street and his name is Issac he used to live in a house until his parents passed away, left him alone and mentally ill. The neighborhood knows Issac's story so we try to help Issac out as much as we can whether its giving him food or giving him a job but he is grateful for everything that we do for him and would just like to have conversations once in a while.
-I like that you include another story from the street here- again, develop this more
- how does this fit in to your overall position/focus?
In my opinion we as a country cannot move forward with homelessness ans a problem until we can accept the fact that stereotypes can be wrong and that not every person we see on the streets is on drugs.
- here you clearly state your focus/position
-now consider how are you going to get your readers to understand this position and agree with it
