Domestic Violence
Domestic Violence is violent abuse that takes place in a home between two spouses however children fall victim to this violence. According to research children between the ages of 3-17 are exposed to domestic violence abuse and about 95% of the cases involve women and male partners. The effects that the children go through is witnessing, hearing, observing and being aware of the tension that takes place in the home.
In this painting domestic violence is taking place while a little girl is the room with her parents. The adolescent child looks to be worried and distressed however she is focusing her attention into knitting her scarf. This painting demonstrates how domestic violence affects children in the home. The painting is very detailed as it shows the father being the dominant spouse towards the mother as he holds her hands in a way where she is forced to listen to his voice. As the painting focus on  the child she is placed in the front of the image where she is the direct focus of it all. Although her parents are arguing which seems to be in the bathroom area the little girl is placed in the bedroom with a black cover on her bed as she sits in a chair with her face hanging down trying to overshadow what she is witnessing and hearing. As she is looking down as if she's almost in tears the little girl could also be imagining her life and how domestic violence may play a role in her relationships. This image is expressing how domestic violence doesn't only affect the spouse however it sheds darkness over the children who witness it.
