Blogger Entry #5: Activism in Art & Music

Due: Monday, Nov. 2nd

Part One: Looking at the Product

Find a song and piece of art related to your issue.  Include the links to these songs and art pieces in your entry.  For your song and piece of art, write a response paragraph that includes the following:

Response Requirements
  • title of song/art piece, musician/artist, genre of music/art
  • summary of song/art piece *what is it about based- do not include your opinion (3-7 sentences)
  • what are the lyrics or instrumentals saying about the social issue? (3-7 sentences)

Part 2: Looking at the Composer

Look into the musician of your song and the artist of your piece.  You are going to do some research to find out two things  1) their credibility-  ETHOS and 2) their PROCESS.

Response Requirements (2)

3-5 sentences per question:

  • Why is this person discussing your social issue?
    • Consider: the musician/artist background to see if they have some type of personal relationship to the issue. Why are they speaking about it? What is there connection to the social issue?
  • Is the musician/artist a credible source to discuss the topic and make comments about it?
    • Consider: why should we listen to this person or take what they are expressing seriously?  what makes that person someone you or others would listen to?
  •  How was the song/art piece was made?
    • For the song consider: did the musician write the song? are there other people who are involved in making a song? is there a music video that goes with the song and does that add to the meaning? is the song well known? what does it take to make that song EFFECTIVE?
    • For the art piece:  what types of materials were used? how long did it take? is the piece well known? what does it take to make this piece EFFECTIVE?

1.social problem/issue: Child Abuse
2. I choose an article from the LA times, "Boy's alleged abuse described in graphic grand jury testimony" by Soumya Karlamangla, Abby Sewell and Laura J. Nelson

My social issue is child abuse, the reason why I choose to write about it is because children  should feel love not neglect, especially by their own family. If a child is giving signs, or you see signs that they might be getting abuse, speak up. In the article, it had mentioned that they saw some warning sighs of him being abuse, they had reported it, but there were no results, the child kept living with the mother. If higher authorities don't do much about this issue, you'll be finding more cases like this one, little boy dies from abuse, and no one did nothing  about it. I highly agree that children should be of high importance, more laws protecting their rights, no child should be going through  this.

1. Bullying
2."stand up" a short film on bullying
3. The reason why I chose this film to talk about bullying is because it talks about how people bully others everyday without even noticing. For example , there's a part in the film where all the classmates are in the class talking while the teacher is talking. They don't even know or realize that what they are doing is wrong. On the other hand, the teacher feels very disrespected. Its Important to notice things like this in order to change them.

The production of meat industries has taken me by surprise once again. We the humans have the ability to stop this from manifesting. This idea that we have to act with our actions is in all over our head. My body is capable to acknowledge that aching disgust for meat. But I get it, it’s hard to let go of a suitable life style and like every Hispanics household meat is at the top of our food supply, it’s in every main course on our plates a dead piece of cow. At times when I’m starving I put down my so called pride and began to devour an animal that has been physically abused/manufactured.
